Just upgraded my Windows 8.1 Pro (Lenovo W540 laptop) to Windows 10, everything went smoothly, all my settings and installed apps preserved and work without a hitch.
The only issue is - Windows's own apps - Calendar, Mail etc. even Windows AppStore - won't launch. When I run them I very briefly see a window flashing and then nothing happens after that.
Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?
EDIT: Seeing bunch of these in Event log: Activation of app Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error: Access is denied. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

Figured it out. For some reason
ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES account lost access to C:Program FilesWindowsApps folder. Once I added it - problem was solved, appstore apps launch normally.

This started out as the programs opening and then immediately closing. The programs I tried were the Store and Xbox apps. After doing some troubleshooting and possible solutions found on google, it now seems that both of those apps are no longer installed on my computer. I've tried various commands using an elevated command prompt and powershell.
My most recent errors are as follows whenever I try to use the powershell to add the apps: and Other solutions suggest creating a new windows account and copying files over then using that as primary. However I am still unable to locate the windows store on the new account. Not quite sure where to go from here, any help would be great.

Ever since the release of Windows 8, Microsoft has been trying to please tablet users by introducing touch friendly universal apps, and Store, and new gestures. In Windows 10, Microsoft has enhanced the Settings app to make it easy-to-navigate and include new options.
In Windows 10, users need to access the Settings app more often than the classic Control Panel as settings for newly added features are exclusively available on Settings app only.
Over the past few days, we have seen a number of users complaining that the Settings app can’t be launched by clicking the Settings icon on the Start menu. Some users are also reporting that clicking the Settings icon launches Store app instead of Settings app.
If the Settings app is not opening on your Windows 10 device or opening Store app instead, you may try the following solutions.
Check if Settings app is disabled
There is a provision in Group Policy and Windows Registry to disable the Settings app. So, it’s a good idea to check it’s disabled before trying out other solutions. Refer to our how to enable or disable Settings in Windows 10 to enable the Settings via Group Policy or Settings.
Fix 2
Try to access the Settings app from other places
There are a couple of ways out there to open the Settings app in Windows 10. You can use the Windows logo + I hotkey or click on the action center icon (in system tray) and then click All Settings to open the same.
Fix 3
Use this official troubleshooter
Microsoft has released a troubleshooter to fix various Windows 10 issues. Click here to download the troubleshooter. After downloading and running the troubleshooter, click Next button to let the troubleshooter scan and fix the issue.
When it detects the problem, click Next button fix the issue.
Fix 4
Install available updates
Microsoft has been releasing fixes to address various Windows 10 issues, including the Settings app. So, make sure that your Windows 10 installation is up-to-date before jumping to other fixes.
Fix 5
Create a new user account
More often than not, modern apps like Settings work without any issues on a newly created user account. So, create a new local or Microsoft user account and then check if the Settings app is opening. If it’s working, you can migrate your data from the previous account to the new one before deleting the old user account.
Fix 6
Contact Microsoft support
You can either contact Microsoft support via chat or schedule a call back from Microsoft using the Contact app. The support team might be able to fix your issue by remotely accessing (with your consent) your Windows 10 machine.
Fix 7
Reset Windows 10
If none of the above solutions helped you to open Settings, please consider resetting your Windows 10 installation by keeping your important data. You can access the Reset option from the boot menu as well. Refer to our how to reset your Windows 10 PC or reset Windows 10 PC to factory settings for step-by-step instructions.
On Windows 10, apps you acquire from the Microsoft Store or those that come preinstalled with the OS will sometimes suddenly 'break.' It could be that your app keeps crashing, you're unable to start it, or the app becomes unresponsive for no apparent reason. Other problems you may face with an app are issues trying to connect or sync content with a particular cloud service.
Whatever the issue, Windows 10 offers a number of ways to fix most common problems with Microsoft Store apps, as well as for built-in apps, such as Microsoft Edge, Mail and Calendar, and Photos.
In this Windows 10 guide, we' walk you through three different ways you can resolve problems with Microsoft Store apps.
How to fix issues with apps using Microsoft Store
When an app isn't working as expected, the first step to resolve any issue involves checking for updates using these steps:
Once you completed these steps, if an update is available, the Microsoft Store will download and install it automatically, which may fix the problem.
How to fix issues with apps using Settings
If there isn't an update available, or you're still having the same issue after the update, you can use the reset feature to delete and restore the default settings using these steps:
After completing these steps, the process will reinstall the app and restore the default factory settings, but your files will not be deleted.
The only caveat to using this option is that depending on the application, you may need to configure it again. If you're having problems with the Mail app, you can use these steps to reapply the settings.
How to fix issues reinstalling the broken application
Alternatively, if you're not dealing with a built-in app, another way to fix problems is by uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
On Windows 10, there are a number of ways to remove an app, but you can always uninstall an app using these steps:
Once you walk through these steps, the app in question will be gone from your computer, and you will have to reinstall it manually using the Microsoft Store.
Reinstalling an app on Windows 10
To reinstall an app from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:
After completing these steps, you should be able to start using the app without any issues. However, you may need to re-apply some of your old settings.
